Plain Labels are Perfect for On Demand Printing

Plain labels are perfect for on demand printing, we manufacture many types of plain labels for a very diverse range of industries. Most labels we manufacture are over-printed by customers using their own printing equipment usually supplied by us, as we additionally offer a vast range of label printers.

There are two main methods for printing labels, Thermal Transfer and Direct Thermal. Thermal Transfer Printing uses ribbons to transfer ink to the labels surface when passed it is passed over the printhead, achieving a permanent printed image or text. This method of printing uses three main types of thermal transfer ribbons including wax, wax-resin and resin. All three types provide different degrees of print quality and scratch resistance.

Direct Thermal Printing uses heat to transfer text or images onto the label. During the manufacturing process a thermal coating is applied to the surface of the label. When the label passes over the thermal printhead the coating turns black in the designated areas where it is heated producing the desired text or image. However the unprinted surface of the label remains thermally sensitive after the printing process, meaning that this method has certain limitations. The material will turn black when exposed to heat and UV light, so will fade if kept in unsuitable environmental conditions. There are different grades of direct thermal labels available including economy, semi-top coated and top coated. Thermal Economy provides standard images and the least amount of scratch resistance. Whilst both semi-top coated and top-coated provide a higher print quality and improved scratch resistance. For more details on the various plain labels or label printing machines we provide contact Etiquette on 0845 222 0354 or you can email the Sales Team at: sales@etiquette.co.uk
