New Labels for York Gin

Did you know that York Gin is the very first Gin from the city? That’s right and our digital department have just finished printing these lollipop labels for their bottles. The labels act as a security measure to ensure the gin isn’t tampered with before purchase and features the York Gin logo at the top of the design. York gin’s logo pays homage to old folklore tales when in 1736 when the government introduced the gin act in an attempt to cut down drinking during the ‘Gin Craze’ – the first Puss & Mew gin shop opened, which according to legend, had its very own cat-shaped vending machine attached. According to one story, the thirsty customer put a coin into the cat’s mouth and received a mouthful of gin out of the tail – funnelled through a lead pipe. According to another story, the customer would whisper to the cat: ‘Puss, give me two pennyworth of gin’ and the ‘cat’ would ‘Mew’ if there was any illicit gin to sell. For more details on our label printing service contact Etiquette on 01978 664544 or you can email the Sales Team at: sales@etiquette.co.uk
