Before purchasing barcode readers

When dealing with complex logistic processes, it is very likely that we try to reduce their complexity in some degree. Adding barcode readers to a logistic process can be very useful and maybe your employees will thank you for alleviating their workload and make their jobs easier. Unfortunately, despite all your good intentions, this is not always the case. Sometimes adding technology to business processes that are not well designed to support that technology is counterproductive and may cause more harm than good to the processes. You should first evaluate if the processes are organized and ready to embrace the new technology as if it always has been there. After that, training your personnel in the uses and misuses of such technology is critical for your success. In the case of barcode readers for example, you should train your employees about how to proper use the equipments and the software applications installed in them. This is very important because they are going to use them as daily tools, so you really want your employees to become experts when dealing with barcode readers. Always remember that resistance to new technologies is something very common in most companies. In fact, to avoid this problem you should involve your personnel in the process of choosing the right barcode readers, whether if it is the first time you are going to use them in your corporation or if they are just upgrades to older models. Remember that is your personnel who deals with the technology day after day, so they are the most prepared people to answer the many questions and issues that may arise around the subject. Testing the new equipment is also something critical. Ask your supplier for a testing period before signing contracts composed of large quantities of barcode readers.
